Prior to this collaboration, ICT Service Management Solutions, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Wistron, was responsible for after-sales repairs. However, with this transfer, Apple is poised to tackle not just routine repairs at authorized service centers but also intricate technical issues directly at Tata’s facility. This development points to Apple’s confidence in Tata’s capabilities, especially as iPhone sales in India have surged remarkably, rising to about 11 million units sold in 2023. The collaboration might also serve as a precursor for Apple to explore new avenues in the Indian market, such as the sale of refurbished devices, further solidifying its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing smartphone markets.

This aligns with broader governmental support for local manufacturing through initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, making India an attractive hub for Apple’s operations. As Apple continues to establish itself in India, bolstering both manufacturing and customer service capabilities, it is clear that the company recognizes the vast potential of this market—not only as a production center but also as a significant consumer base.
