Search Underway for 19-Year-Old Kamogelo Baukudi After Apparent Police Impersonation Kidnapping
Fitchardpark/Erlichpark Extension, 5 June 2025 – A coordinated Search Task Team has been deployed in and around Fitchardpark and Erlichpark Extension following the reported abduction of 19-year-old Grade 11 learner, Kamogelo Baukudi. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Baukudi was taken by two men who were impersonating police officers earlier today, just before mid-day.
Incident Details
At approximately 11:55 AM, the complainant—believed to be a family member or guardian—arrived at Kamogelo’s school in Fitchardpark as per their usual daily routine. Kamogelo, who drives a silver Suzuki Ertiga to school, prepared to leave the premises alongside the complainant. While traveling along Vereeniging Drive in Erlichpark Extension, the pair heard a siren from behind. A white Toyota Hilux GD-6 Double Cab soon pulled up alongside them. Inside the vehicle sat two unknown men: one dressed in a police uniform and the other wearing blue tracksuits. The impersonators directed the Suzuki Ertiga to stop, instructed Kamogelo into the Hilux, and fled the scene.

Within minutes of the incident report, SAPS officers opened a formal case docket for “kidnapping” and “impersonating a police officer.” Local station commanders immediately dispatched a Search Task Team comprising uniformed officers and detectives who have begun systematically canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods, traffic cameras, and known criminal hotspots.
SAPS Response and Appeal for Information
Captain Sabata Jafta Moseme, spokesperson for the nearby Vereeniging SAPS precinct, emphasized the urgency of this matter:
“Kamogelo is a young learner with no known history of voluntary disappearance. We believe the impostors intended to mislead the complainant by leveraging a legitimate-looking police uniform—and perhaps an authentic siren—to facilitate the abduction. We are asking the public to remain vigilant and contact us immediately with any sighting or tip that could lead to Kamogelo’s safe return.”
Captain Moseme confirmed that, as of this evening, no trace of the white Toyota Hilux or Kamogelo has been found. He added that investigators are checking traffic footage from Vereeniging Drive and neighboring intersections, as well as speaking with local taxi and bus operators to see if the kidnappers attempted to transfer Kamogelo to another vehicle.

Community and Social Media Outreach

Witnesses are encouraged to check private CCTV or recording devices from nearby homes, businesses, or petrol stations.
SAPS has also publicized the MySAPSApp as a channel for anyone to submit anonymous tips or multimedia evidence. The nationwide Crime Stop hotline (08600 10111) is available for callers who wish to provide immediate information without revealing their identity.
Previous Incidents and Impersonation Concerns
Police impersonation has emerged as a growing concern across Gauteng Province this year. While genuine police officers are readily identifiable by their official vehicles, printed warrant cards, and marked uniforms, recent criminal cases have demonstrated how impersonators sometimes acquire counterfeit badges and even roof-mounted sirens to deceive unsuspecting victims. Investigators caution the public to ask for visible, properly laminated police ID, or to request to see the registration details of any unmarked vehicle that claims to be law enforcement—especially when the vehicle is out of pattern for official SAPS patrols.
What to Do If You Have Information
Anyone who may have seen Kamogelo Baukudi, the silver Suzuki Ertiga, or the white Toyota Hilux GD-6 Double Cab on Vereeniging Drive—or who has any other information that could assist in locating him—is urged to contact:

Even the smallest detail—such as a partial license-plate number or a time and place where the suspect vehicle was spotted—could help the Search Task Team close in on Baukudi’s whereabouts.
Call to Unity
Local community leaders, school administrators, and parent-teacher associations in Fitchardpark and Erlichpark Extension have mobilized to support the search. Volunteer street patrols are distributing flyers to residents, and social-media influencers from neighboring suburbs have begun sharing the SAPS-issued bulletin under the hashtags #CrimeStop and #MySAPSApp. Parents and learners at Kamogelo’s school have also gathered to pray for his quick and safe return.
SAPS reiterates that time is critical in kidnapping cases. Anyone with information—no matter how minor it may seem—is encouraged to come forward immediately. As Captain Moseme concluded,
“One call could make all the difference. Help us bring Kamogelo home.”
