Five Suspects Out on Bail Arrested After Violent CIT Robbery in Ekangala, Tshwane

Five suspects, all previously out on bail for similar crimes, have been arrested following a brazen cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Ekangala, Tshwane. The dramatic takedown occurred on Wednesday after a high-speed chase and gunfire exchange with law enforcement.

According to police reports, the group used a BMW to ram a cash van, which they then bombed before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in multiple getaway vehicles.

Thanks to the swift response from Gauteng Highway Patrol, two of the fleeing vehicles — a silver Mercedes-Benz and a silver Mazda CX-3 — were spotted on the N12 Highway. A high-speed pursuit ensued during which the suspects opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire, leading to the successful capture of five suspects with assistance from private security personnel.

Authorities recovered one of the getaway vehicles and over 100 rounds of live ammunition. Investigations have revealed that the suspects were already out on bail for previous CIT-related crimes committed across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.

More than six suspects remain at large, and a manhunt is actively underway. The five arrested individuals are scheduled to appear before the magistrate’s court on Monday, facing charges of:

Cash-in-transit robbery Attempted murder Possession of illegal ammunition

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that more arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds.
