Zimbabwean Domestic Helper Arrested in Connection with Weapons Linked to Cop Killing

A 59-year-old domestic worker from Zimbabwe, Tendai Mafunya, has been arrested in Centurion’s Ecopark Estate after police discovered a stash of firearms and ammunition in the home of her employer, Nkosinathi George Manuse.

The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of a Gauteng Highway Patrol SAPS officer. The operation was led by CI Tshwane District, Gauteng Highway Patrol, Gauteng DPCI, and Vision Tactical members, who were tracking down suspects believed to be involved in the crime.

Weapons and Vehicles Seized

During the raid, authorities uncovered a stockpile of illegal weapons, including:

• Three AK-47 rifle magazines with live ammunition

• A 9mm pistol with a filed-off serial number

• Two 9mm magazines loaded with live rounds

• Five two-way radios

• Two cellphones

• One airgun

• Dagga

Additionally, police seized several vehicles suspected to have been used in the murder, including:

• A silver-grey Kia Sorento with false registration

• A blue BMW linked to the murder of a Pretoria police officer

• A Polo GTI also suspected to be involved in the same crime

Arrest and Investigation

When police arrived at the residence, Mafunya was the only person present. During questioning, she confirmed that the house belonged to her employer, Nkosinathi George Manuse, one of the suspects under investigation.

Since she was in possession of the weapons and stolen vehicles at the time of the search, Mafunya was immediately taken into custody and transported to Lyttelton Police Station.

Authorities are still investigating Manuse’s whereabouts and working to determine Mafunya’s exact role in the case. The local criminal record centre has been called in to assist with forensic analysis and further evidence collection.

Unanswered Questions

While Mafunya has been arrested, it remains unclear whether she was actively involved in the crime or simply caught in the crossfire of her employer’s alleged activities. Law enforcement is expected to continue their probe, with further arrests likely.

This case has raised serious concerns about criminal networks operating in residential estates and the risks faced by domestic workers who may unknowingly become entangled in illegal activities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and more developments are expected in the coming days.
