Bushbuckridge Police Officer Arrested for Allegedly Orchestrating Husband’s Murder

In a shocking turn of events, Sergeant Nyiko Nyathi, a 42-year-old police officer stationed at the Bushbuckridge Police Station, has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of her husband, Lawrence Alba Mashego, and another woman, Victoria Lebyane.

Nyathi, who took an oath to serve and protect, now finds herself behind bars as she faces serious criminal charges.

A Crime That Shocked the Community

The case dates back to February last year, when Mashego (44) was kidnapped from his home in Boikutsong Trust, Mpumalanga, by a group of six armed men. The suspects robbed him of his Toyota Quantum and Ford Escort before taking him to Zoeknog, where Victoria Lebyane, believed to be Mashego’s girlfriend, was staying.

There, the kidnappers allegedly stole R4,000 in cash and Mashego’s bank cards before fatally shooting Lebyane. Mashego met the same tragic fate soon after.

Investigation Leads to Sergeant Nyathi

Following a thorough police investigation, four suspects were arrested, and one of them pleaded guilty. The investigation later revealed a shocking twist—the alleged mastermind behind the double murder was none other than Mashego’s wife, Sergeant Nyathi.

Authorities believe that Nyathi planned and orchestrated the crime, using the armed men to carry out the attacks.

Court Appearance and Bail Hearing

Nyathi was arrested by her colleagues and has already made her first court appearance. She is expected to return to court on Wednesday for her bail application.

The case has sent shockwaves throughout the Bushbuckridge community, with many struggling to comprehend how a law enforcement officer could be involved in such a gruesome crime.

Justice for the Victims

As the legal process unfolds, authorities are working to ensure that justice is served. The case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption and crime within law enforcement, raising questions about trust and accountability in the police force.

For now, the community watches closely as the case develops, hoping that the victims and their families receive the justice they deserve.
