As we herald the dawn of a new year, the vibrant heart of the vhaVenda music industry prepares to celebrate its champions once more. The Phalaphala FM Tshivenda Music Awards, a prestigious annual event organized by Phalaphala FM, a dedicated South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) radio station, is set to honor the remarkable men and women who continue to make significant contributions to the artistic tapestry of Tshivenda music. The upcoming 2024 edition promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, cultural heritage, and community spirit.
The Tshivenda Music Awards exist not just as a platform for recognition but as a tribute to the rich culture and heritage embedded in the music of the Vhavenda people. By celebrating artists who produce music entirely in the Tshivenda language, the awards play a crucial role in preserving and promoting linguistic and cultural identity through the universal language of music. This event is a reminder of the power of music to unify communities, convey stories, and keep traditions alive.
The awards launch, which took place at the picturesque Kalahari Waterfront in Thohoyandou, was a momentous occasion. The unveiling of a refreshed logo for the Phalaphala FM Tshivenda Music Awards signifies not just a fresh look, but a renewed commitment to the artists who play an integral role in enriching our cultural landscape.
For those eager to compete for the coveted awards, the entry window is now open! Artists can submit their entries starting from September 23 until October 31, 2024. To qualify for submission, musicians must have released music between September 2022 and September 2024—a two-year period that covers the years when the awards were not held in 2022 and 2023.
This inclusive approach ensures that talented artists who may have been overlooked during these periods receive the recognition they deserve. The only requirement? Your music must celebrate the beauty of the Tshivenda language, ensuring that the essence of the culture is at the forefront of this event.
Aspiring contestants can obtain the entry form from the official website of Phalaphala FM at www.phalaphalafm.co.za, as the previous awards-specific website and social media platforms are no longer in operation. Entry forms can also be picked up at the Phalaphala FM offices located in both Thohoyandou and Polokwane.
